A Conversation with Amy & Frank Lesesne, Owners of Anchorage 1770

Beaufort is fortunate to have a variety of lodging options from which to choose. Whether you are in search of a quaint inn or 4-Star accommodations for a romantic weekend get-a-way, a family vacation or a corporate function, Beaufort and the Sea Islands have it all.  One of Beaufort’s most storied Inns is Anchorage 1770 at 1103 Bay Street in Historic Downtown Beaufort.  We had a chance to speak with owners Amy and Frank Lesesne and this is what they shared with us.

How long have you owned the Anchorage?

We purchased the property in May of 2014. After significant renovation we opened in August of 2015

Why did you and Amy choose to purchase the Anchorage and to get into the B&B business?

Amy is from Miami and she has always wanted to get back to living near the ocean. We had traveled to Beaufort in 2011 and loved the town. We thought we might retire there one day. I sold a business that I owned and operated and so we decided to make the move from hectic fast paced Atlanta to America’s Best Small Town!

What were you doing before?

I owned a small technology consulting and data company. Amy was a photographer in which she still dabbles.

What changes have you made since you have owned the property?

When we renovated the Anchorage, we added a commercial kitchen, an elevator, a roof top deck, a kitchenette on the top floor, 13 bathrooms, 2 half-baths, a cottage, all new HVAC and we sprinkled the building for fire safety.

What is the best thing about owning Anchorage 1770?

Meeting new people every day from all different parts of the world and having locals come dine and enjoy the property.

The best thing about living in Beaufort?

Beaufort is of course a beautiful place and we love being near the water, but the best part about Beaufort is the people. The people in Beaufort are what makes it easy to be a “new comer” in town.

What do you want your guests to take away or remember about their stay?

Most guests remember having our really tasty grits in the morning (secret recipe) and a cocktail on our porches in the evening. We want our guests to get an authentic taste of Lowcountry life while feeling relaxed and recharged on the way home.
