Lowcountry Boot Trail

Welcome to the Watermen's Wave Lowcountry Boot Trail

The Watermen’s Wave Lowcountry Boot Trail is an art installation that launched in January 2024 coinciding with the Beaufort Oyster Festival. It will feature 11 oversized watermen’s boots that have been creatively painted by local artists. These boots will be displayed at various businesses throughout the area and collectively known as the Watermen’s Wave Lowcountry Boot Trail.

The Watermen

The concept behind this art installation is to celebrate the history and culture of the watermen in the Lowcountry region. Watermen, also known as crabbers or fishermen, have played a crucial role in shaping the coastal communities of South Carolina for generations. Their livelihoods revolve around harvesting seafood from the surrounding waters and their unique way of life has been passed down through families for centuries.

The Businesses

In addition to being a visually appealing attraction, the Watermen’s Wave Lowcountry Boot Trail also aims to support local businesses and area attractions. By displaying these boots at various establishments, it encourages visitors to explore different areas and discover hidden gems in the community.

The Art

Through this art installation, the Watermen’s Wave Lowcountry Boot Trail aims to also showcase local artists. Visitors can expect to see vibrant colors, intricate designs, and meaningful symbols that reflect the rich heritage and traditions of the Lowcountry region.
