BEAUFORT SHRIMP FEST ANNOUNCES JUDGES FOR THE SILVER CUP COMPETITION
SILVER CUP AWARD ENHANCED WITH SALVAGED WOOD FROM THE TIDERUNNER
Southern Living™ has joined the list of Foodie and Lifestyle publications signed-on to serve as Judges for the 2018 Beaufort Shrimp Fest BEST SHRIMP RECIPE Silver Cup Competition.
In it’s 21st year, the Silver Cup Competition recognizes the BEST Food Vendor & Shrimp Dish at the annual Shrimp Fest. Made up of two individual competitions, the Silver Cup includes the popular People’s Choice Award and Award for Best Shrimp Dish. The Food Vendor with the most accumulated points between the two competitions receives the coveted Silver Cup.
Stepping up the competition, organizers have secured judges from 5 popular Foodie and Lifestyle publications to taste and determine the Best Shrimp Dish. All shrimp dishes in the event and the competition must use SC Wild Caught Shrimp in support of our Shrimping industry. The Silver Cup competition has been coordinated all these years by Peach Morrison, Shrimp Fest volunteer and Executive Director of the South Carolina Lowcountry Tourism Commission.
Judges this year include
Kathryn Lott, Contributing Editor for Southern Living™
Holly Belk, Navigate Media™
Stephanie Burt, The Southern Fork™
Michiel Perry, The Black Southern Belle™
Lynn & Cele Seldon, Seldon Ink™

The winner of each competition receives the traditional Beaufort Shrimp Boat Plaque. The overall Winner receives the coveted Silver Cup to display for a year until the next Shrimp Fest.
After 20 years, the cup, which includes plaques naming all previous winners, is finally reaching its capacity. The Beaufort Shrimp Fest is excited to unveil an addition to the Silver Cup base this year that resonates with the Beaufort’s shrimping industry. What could be more representative of Beaufort’s Shrimp legacy than a piece of wood salvaged from the Tiderunner—the iconic Shrimp boat featured in the Prince of Tides. Owned by well known Beaufort Shrimper Emmet Paul in the 1990s, the boat can be seen from Sea Island Parkway as you head on to Hunting Island. Mr. Paul’s family has graciously consented to allowing wood from the Tiderunner to be used in expanding the Silver Cup base.
The 2018 Beaufort Shrimp Fest is schedule for Friday and Saturday, October 5 & 6th in the Henry C. Chamber’s Waterfront Park. Friday nights event features popular entertainers Deas Guyz, while Saturday’s event features entertainment with Jeff T-Bone Taylor of 104.9 The Surf, the band Blue Mudd, the Band Return of Red Beard. Saturday closed out with an evening concert by Beaufort’s own American Idol Winner Candice Glover starting at 6:30p.m. New this year, the event features a Coastal Marine Fair with interactive exhibits and programs provided by SCDNR, Hunting Island State Park, Technical College of the Lowcountry, UGA and much more.
